IT WAS CLEAR THAT CONTROLLING CHEMSEX HAD INVESTED IN THE TRAINING OF MY PEER MENTOR AND SELECTED HIM VERY WELL

In time, after receiving professional one-to-one support, I transitioned to a peer mentor, whom I had full confidence in.  It was clear that Controlling Chemsex had invested in his training and selected him well. he was able to continue to support me, sharing his experiences and techniques too. I have received support from Controlling Chemsex initially for about three months and I feel I have come to a position where I no longer take drugs for sex or otherwise. My life is in a much better position thanks to their support.

IF MY MENTOR COULD GET OVER CHEMS AND HE IS A HAPPY MAN, WHY NOT ME AS WELL?

Now I realise that when I was using chems so often I had got the impression that everybody was using drugs and everybody was fucked up. Having the opportunity to speak on a weekly basis with someone who had also gone through difficulties because of chemsex and he had found the way to get over them, that changed completely my perspective, and it helped me a lot to understand that there is life after chemsex. If he could do it and he is a happy man, why not me as well?

HIS EXPERIENCE DEALING WITH CRAVINGS AND RECONNECTING WITH THE COMMUNITY HELPED ME IMMENSELY

My peer mentor was extremely friendly and non-judgemental (having been in my situation himself) and was very aware that different guys have different experiences and goals when it comes to drugs. I found the sessions very useful and they gave me tools to manage my drug use and guidance to focus my energy and time on other things which I struggled to do before these sessions. In particular, his experience dealing with cravings and reconnecting with the community helped me immensely, and I will feel always very grateful.

HAVING THE SUPPORT OF A PEER MENTOR ALSO HELPED ME TO SEE THAT I CAN ALSO OFFER MY EXPERIENCE IN THE FUTURE TO HELP OTHERS

Controlling Chemsex has changed my life in more ways than one, and I feel the effects will be long lasting. Having the support of a peer mentor also helped me to see that I can also offer my experience in the future to help other. As a matter of fact, I have also discussed opportunities with them to enable me to volunteer with the organisation too so I can help others who are going through similar experiences that I have previously gone through.
