Peer mentoring program

LIKE ALL OUR SERVICES, THIS SUPPORT IS FOR FREE

Mentoring is a one-to-one, non-judgmental relationship in which an individual voluntarily gives time to support and encourage another. This is typically developed at a time of transition in the mentee's life, and lasts for a significant and sustained period of time."  (Active Community Unit, Home Office)

WHY PEER MENTORING FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING WITH CHEMSEX?

People who have experienced the impact of chemsex on their lives in the past themselves are in a good position to use the knowledge they have gained to support and encourage another person who has recently struggled with this reality, and after accessing professional support and taking some control back, they are in the process of making changes in their lives. This could be support with cravings, tips and advice, or providing a friendly and reassuring voice to talk to. Sharing their knowledge and experience of chemsex can be a powerful and rewarding experience for the mentor and mentee.

The mentor serves as a positive role model, promotes raised aspirations, positive reinforcement, provides open-ended advice and joint problem-solving. Peer Support is highlighted as an effective intervention for improving the mental well-being of people who are trying to take their control back because of chemsex, having someone who understands and who is there to assist and guide them.
