My name is Andrew, and I am a clinical student with the College of Social Work at the University of Tennessee (USA), specializing in addiction and trauma treatment. I have volunteered with Controlling Chemsex since 2022 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
After my personal clash with chemsex, I saw a glaring need for culturally-tailored support and an addiction treatment field shrugging its shoulders, unsure where to begin. Chemsex asks us to rethink our conventional understanding of addiction and become curious about each individual's unique experience of it. I am honoured to be a part of an organization that is willing to pioneer a new approach. Controlling Chemsex sees that unfulfilled need and embraces the challenge, instilling hope that lasting change is possible.
When we understand our relationship with drugs and sex, we better understand ourselves. When we learn to accept ourselves just as we are, we can begin the process of change and enrich our relationships with others.
